"Miracle fruit" (Synsepalum dulcificum) is an evergreen shrub from the Sapotaceae family, native to tropical West Africa. It is known for its mild fruits that have the unique ability to make sour foods taste sweet when eaten afterward. The fruit is used locally to sweeten beverages like palm wine. The unrelated sweet prayer plant (Thaumatococcus daniellii) also shares a similar effect and is sometimes referred to by the same name.
